Anaheim Car Accident Statistics

The city of Anaheim reported 23 deaths and 1,970 injuries due to car accidents in 2009, according to the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Report. In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash, Attorney West Seegmiller explains. The investigation will seek to find out if either driver was under the influence of alcohol, distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.

“Families of victims killed in car accidents not only have to cope with the loss of a loved one, but later their lives may be forever changed due to the loss of income and other costs,” said Seegmiller.

LOS ANGELES – A group of children kayaking off Catalina Island learned the hard way that sudden weather changes can quickly affect boaters and put them in harm’s way. The group of children who were chaperoned by adults were carried nearly a mile off shore when winds suddenly increased to nearly 45 knots, and the temperature dropped significantly.
Fortunately, a California Fish and Game boat named Thresher, the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut and a Good Samaritan together were able to assist the group and help them safely return to shore. According to the report, all of the kayakers were wearing life jackets. Still despite the quick rescue, there were several kayakers who reported were mildly hypothermic due to the exposure out on the ocean for a prolonged period of time.
“Boat accidents are common in Southern California, but preparation and planning can make the difference between having a safe trip or a tragedy,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm in Irvine.
The United States Coast Guard issued a press release Thursday to remind boaters that our waterways can quickly turn deadly due to storms and inclement weather. As summer approaches, boaters in Southern California will likely spend more time on the water fishing, water skiing, swimming and enjoying the coastline views.
However, all boaters should first check the weather forecast prior to heading out on the water and heed warning signs such as dark clouds, high winds or other foul weather. Additionally, stocking the boat with plenty of life jackets, a radio or waterproof and charged cell phone is mandatory in case of emergencies.
Boaters should also consider filing a float plan with friends or family on shore so they can quickly notify search and rescue agencies if your boat fails to return as scheduled.

BEVERLY HILLS, California – Just days before his parole was scheduled to end this month, actor Lane Garrison, former star of the TV show “Prison Break,” was charged Thursday with one count of misdemeanor battery for allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend in the lobby of her Beverly Hills apartment Saturday, according to a press release issued today by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

Garrison, 31, is on parole for a 2007 vehicular manslaughter conviction, but the violation will likely extend the parole, according to a statement in the Los Angeles Times by a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The actor is due in Beverly Hills Superior Court on Friday for arraignment on the battery charge. He is being held without bail due to the potential parole violation. Garrison was convicted after the death of Vahagn Setian, 17, one of three teenagers riding as passengers in his Land Rover SUV that crashed into a tree.

After the 2007 crash, police tested Garrison and found he had cocaine in his system and more than twice the legal blood-alcohol level at the time of the crash.

Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth Marks said the new charges stem from Garrison allegedly striking Ashley Mattingly as the two were walking out of an elevator in an apartment building in the 300 block of North Palm Drive on Saturday. Witnesses approached the pair, but Garrison allegedly ran from the building.
If convicted, he faces up to one year on county jail and a $2,000 fine.

“Driving in Los Angeles county can be particularly dangerous due to the high volume of cars on the roadways that lead to congestion and ultimately accidents,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash, Seegmiller explains. The investigation will seek to find out if there was anyone driving under the influence of alcohol, distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.
