BLYTHE, California (May 14, 2013) – One person suffered major and two minor injuries Sunday night in a crash between a semi-tractor trailer truck and a sedan on the Interstate 10 freeway at Mesa Drive, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Fire Department.

About 6:45 p.m., the two vehicles were driving on the westbound Interstate 10 freeway when the traffic accident occurred. Three people were injured in the truck accident and taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals. One of the victims was taken by a Careflight air ambulance to a trauma center for treatment of moderate to major injuries, the report said.

“Whenever a smaller vehicle is involved in a traffic accident with a big rig truck there are likely to be serious injuries,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Victims of these types of collisions may need the assistance of an experienced truck accident attorney to help them recover compensation for costs such as medical care, lost time off work and other losses.”

PALM DESERT, California (May 13, 2013) — An unlicensed driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Friday after he reportedly caused a 3-vehicle injury traffic accident on Monterey Avenue at Dinah Shore Drive, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

About 4:45 p.m. on May 10, 2013, Joseph William Knyvett, 32, of La Quinta was driving his Ford Explorer northbound on Monterey Avenue when he collided with the driver of a Ford Mustang who was traveling eastbound on Dinah Shore Drive. The impact of the crash caused the Explorer to overturn onto its driver’s side. The Mustang spun around and crashed into a Chevrolet Blazer that was stopped at red traffic light on the westbound side of Dinah Shore Drive, the report said.

Witnesses who saw the traffic accident came to the aid of Knyvett who was trapped in his vehicle following the crash. The bystanders managed to life the vehicle into the upright position back  on all four wheels, the report said. Knyvett was not injured in the crash, however, the driver of the Mustang was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Knyvett was arrested on DUI charges and driving without a valid license. Palm Desert Police booked Knyvett into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, California.

Police say the Explorer and the Mustang both sustained major damage, but the Chevrolet Blazer had only minor damage due to the crash.

Police closed down the westbound lanes of Dinah Shore Drive for about one hour as they investigated the crash and debris was cleaned up from the roadway.
Knyvett was booked at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on DUI charges and driving without a valid license.

“Fortunately no one was killed in this traffic accident,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Drunk drivers are extremely dangerous and are the cause of thousands of deaths every year on our busy roadways.”

Victims who are injured in a crash with a drunk driver may recoup their financial losses even if the DUI driver did not have insurance if they have uninsured motorist coverage on their own policy.

A personal injury attorney can help anyone navigate the complex legal system and work as an advocate to ensure victims of these types of crashes are fairly compensated for all of their losses. Typically, those who are represented by an attorney in a car accident case recoup about 3.5 times more compensation for their losses than those who work directly with an insurance adjuster.

Witnesses are asked to contact Sergeant Dan Devinny at the Palm Desert Police Department, at (760) 836-1654, or they can call in anonymously at (760) 341-STOP (7867).

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY (May 13, 2013) –Daniel Ray Douthit, 60, of Laughlin, Nevada was killed Friday morning after a crash on the westbound Interstate 40 with the driver of a semi-tractor trailer truck, according to a report issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 8:48 a.m., CHP responded to the crash on the I-40 highway near mile marker 38. Douthit was driving his 2000 Jeep Wrangler on the highway when he crashed into the back of a big rig truck that had just changed lanes in preparation to turn through the median. The truck had slowed down to roughly 5 mph at the time of the crash, the police report said.

The California Highway Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.

Truck drivers are required to undergo extensive training and must follow federal and state laws that are specifically designed to ensure the safety of the public. The laws and regulations include regular maintenance inspections, hours of service HOS requirements, driver training and background checks and much more. There are devices on trucks that are similar to black boxes used on aircraft that can actually be used to gather evidence after a serious truck accident.

“The family of this man is suffering a tremendous loss due to this truck crash and will want answers to why this happened and who is at fault,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “An experienced wrongful death attorney specializing in truck accidents can help find answers for them and obtain justice.”

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY (May 13, 2013) — Ruby Angie Bojorquez, 30, of Apple Valley was killed in an early morning crash on Mother’s Day when she was involved in a chain-reaction crash while driving on the Interstate 15 freeway, according to a news report issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 3:45 a.m., Bojorquez was driving a Ford Mustang when she allegedly rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade and was subsequently rear-ended by the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu. The report did not indicate any further details, but a police investigation is forthcoming.

Whenever someone dies in a traffic accident, police will conduct a complete investigation into the cause of the wreck to help determine who is liable. Anyone who is a victim of a car crash should also consider having an experienced personal injury attorney conduct a separate investigation to determine liability.

“There are no words that can lift the burden of pain and sorrow this family is enduring with the news of such an incredible loss,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “My condolences go out to the family and friends of Ruby Bojorquez.”
