LEMON GROVE, California –  Police identified Tyzhel Latella McWilliams as the 8-month-old baby boy who was killed Thursday, June 14 after he was attacked by a group of pit bull dogs in a home in the 3500 block of West Street just east of downtown San Diego, according to news reports.

According to San Diego County Sheriff Department deputies responded to the vicious dog bite attack about 5 p.m. and met with a woman holding the 8-month-old boy in her arms. Police say only one of the three dogs actually bit the baby in the attack.

Lemon Grove Fire Department paramedics responding to a call from the home treated the injured baby at the scene of the attack before transporting him to Rady Children’s Hospital where he died about an hour later.

The three pit bulls were removed from the home by animal control officers, but they are not sure which dogs actually attacked the child. The investigation into the dog bite attack will ultimately provide an answer and a decision as to whether to euthanize the dogs will be made.

“Many dogs make great pets, but Pit Bull dogs are unpredictable and can be extremely dangerous animals,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Tragedies such as this one are preventable and the negligent owners of the dogs responsible for this attack should be held criminally and civilly accountable for this boy’s death so that hopefully this will never happen again.”
