WASHINGTON, DC – A defective rivet that allows the harness adjuster on infant car seats to detach has led Britax Child Safety, Inc. to recall 14,220 car seats Friday, according to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

There are no reported deaths or injuries related to the recalled infant car seats, however, the NHTSA is alerting consumers of the potential hazard and asking those with detached harness adjusters to stop using the device and have it repaired.

  • Defective Britax seat models are: E9L692J, E9L692K, E9L692L and E9L692M manufactured from September 1, 2010, through April 30, 2011.

The defective car seat may lead to improper restraint of the child and the possibility that a child using this car seat could be injured or killed as a result.

Indeed, serious injuries or even death can result if an infant car seat is poorly designed to restrain a child.
