BURBANK, California – Kevin Wilson, 52, of Glendale was killed after he struck a legally parked van parked on Alameda Avenue on Sunday, February 12, according to a Burbank Police Department press release.

Wilson was riding his 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Alameda Avenue when he allegedly failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck the van on the south side of the curb near the intersection at Chavez Street, the police report said.

Wilson was treated at the scene of the motorcycle accident and paramedics transported him to Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center. Wilson suffered severe internal injuries and died a short time after his arrival, the report said. The cause of the fatal motorcycle accident is under investigation by the Burbank Police Department.

Motorcycle Accident Statistics

There were 389 fatalities and 10,134 injuries to motorcyclists in California in 2009, the latest statistics compiled by the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic System Report.

In the United States, motorcyclist injuries made a significant drop, down roughly 9% to 82,000 injuries reported in 2010 compared to 90,000 injuries the year before. Fatal accidents were slightly up, 4,502 deaths were reported in 2010 compared to 4,469 in 2009.
