LOS ANGELES, California – Fifteen people were injured, two in critical condition after a collision involving 19 vehicles on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway Tuesday morning when a big rig crashed into several vehicles in the Agua Dulce area just northeast of Canyon Country, according to a report by MSNBC News.
Traffic to the southbound lanes of the freeway was closed off about 10 a.m. as the heap of trucks and cars piled on top of one another completely blocked passage on the roadway in an area about a mile away from the Vasquez Rocks County Park. Many passengers were trapped in their vehicles including the driver of a Volkswagen Passat, according to California Highway Patrol report. The CHP report indicated that a Toyota Prius had front-end damage and traffic was backed up for many miles. The SigAlert was canceled and the freeway was reopened to traffic at 2:03 p.m.
According to news reports, the crash was allegedly caused by the driver of a truck with a double trailer filled with 25 tons of sand after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed with several cars just south of the exit to Escondido Canyon Road. Witnesses told police the driver of the big rig was allegedly traveling at a high speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
“Traffic collisions involving heavy trucks can be especially deadly on our busy freeways,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm in Los Angeles. “Victims of this type of crash should seek immediate medical attention and contact a lawyer to help ensure they are compensated for their injuries.”
