VICTORVILLE, California (Feb. 10, 2013) – Police say a 33-year-old Hesperia man who was found dead Sunday night on the Interstate 15 Freeway at Bear Valley Road was struck by a least one vehicle, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.
About 8:40 p.m., the California Highway Patrol was called to the scene of the pedestrian accident after receiving a call about an unknown object in the southbound lane, according to a report in the Daily Press. The news report indicated the body may have been struck by more than one vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Sheriffs Department are investigating this incident and asking any witnesses to come forward.
“Police will likely be on the lookout for these hit-and-run drivers,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Drivers who flee the scene of a pedestrian accident are not only criminals under California law, but they can also be held accountable in civil court by filing a wrongful death lawsuit.”

Hit-and-run pedestrian accidents are devastating on the families of the victims who are injured or killed – especially if the victim financially supported a family. In the event that the drivers who struck this man are not found, the family of the victim may file a claim to help cover costs of funeral and other expenses if the pedestrian has uninsured motorist coverage on his vehicle.
