YUCAIPA, California (July 6, 2013) –Michael Anthony Jaurigue, 57, of San Bernardino was killed and two people were injured Friday morning when the car he was riding in rear-ended a big rig truck and overturned onto the side of the Interstate 10 freeway, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.
About 5:40 a.m., Jaurigue was riding as a passenger in a black 2001 Jeep Cherokee that was heading westbound on the I-10 freeway towards Yucaipa. The car was about a half-mile north of the County Line Road when the driver struck the back of the tractor trailer truck and rolled over onto the right shoulder, the press release said.
Jaurigue was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he later died at 1:40 p.m. the next day after undergoing surgery at the hospital. Two others in the Jeep Cherokee were injured in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash to determine liability.
“This is a tragedy for the family of Michael Jaurigue,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Hopefully they are able to come to terms with his loss and the others injured in this tragic crash are able to have a full recovery.”
