MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Officers are investigating a chase and shooting involving a Ford Mustang and a police cruiser.

At around 3:15 am, a silver pickup truck shot into a Ford Mustang, striking the passenger in the car.  He was transported to an area hospital with a wound to the neck and is listed in stable condition.  The driver exited the freeway, and authorities proceeded to shut down the freeway to investigate.  As some of the officers were navigating and detouring traffic, a suspected drunk driver hit one of the police cruisers.  Officers were not located in the vehicle and weren’t injured.  The driver of the other car who collided with the police cruiser was arrested at the scene.

This shooting could have been compounded into more tragedy had the police officers still be in the vehicle.  Auto collisions occur for any number of reasons – Drunk driving, hit and run, losing control of the vehicle, and distracted driving.   Some injuries may lead to long-term ailments requiring pain medication, therapy or loss of function. You may require time off work to recover from injuries completely and those costs are not likely part of the settlement they will offer you.

MALIBU, California — Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey became a real-life hero to a 17-year-old boy whose car flipped over several times and crashed into the front yard of the celebrity’s Malibu home last week, according to an ABC News story.

Weston Masset, 17, was trapped upside down inside his silver Ford Mustang car, but Dempsey grabbed a crowbar and freed him from the wreck and then called paramedics to the scene of the single-vehicle crash. Masset recognized Dempsey and asked him “Are you famous?” Dempsey replied “Yeah I’m a doctor.”

Indeed, Dempsey, 46, plays the fictional neurosurgeon Dr. Dereck Shepherd on television, but his skills must have rubbed off him enough to act quickly and save the teenager. While paramedics were tending to the teenager, Dempsey called the boy’s mother Mary Beth Masset on the telephone and told her what happened.

Mary Beth Masset asked if he was a paramedic and he replied “No, this is Patrick Dempsey.” She told reporters she thought to herself “McDreamy?” Later he called her a second time to check to see how the boy was doing.

Weston Masset suffered a mild concussion and an eye injury in the Malibu car crash and is expected to recover from his injuries.
