SAN DIEGO, California — A teenager led San Diego Police on a pursuit Tuesday morning that led to the young driver striking another car and attempting to flee and hide from police, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
The 16-year-old male driver and his passenger another 16-year-old male were both taken into custody by police, the driver was booked into Juvenile Hall, charged with suspicion of hit-and-run, evading police and a curfew violation, the report said.
Police officials said an officer tried to pull over the teenage driver of a 2002 Hyundai at around midnight but the driver sped off leading to the pursuit and the hit-and-run accident.
The driver ran several stop signs and rear ended another car during the pursuit, the report said. It is unclear if that accident resulted in any injuries.
Both suspects were apprehended about a half-hour after the start of the pursuit, police officials said.
“These teenagers were up to no good and while they are on the hook for evading police they are also responsible for damages to the other car and injuries to those who were in the other car if there were any,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “The driver and his parents need to be held responsible for negligence that could very well have resulted in the injury of innocent motorists and their passengers.”
