LAKE FOREST, California — Joy Kelly, 52, of Lake Forest died in a head-on collision with a tracker trailer truck Tuesday afternoon after she allegedly drove her sports utility vehicle the wrong way on El Toro Road south of Jeronimo Road, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the 1 p.m. fatal crash, but Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver, whose vehicle caught fire, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mission Hospital.

Police say that witnesses saw Kelly’s silver Mercedes-Benz SUV driving the wrong way on El Toro Road for some distance shortly before the crash with the big rig truck, according to an Orange County Register story. The article said Kelly struck the curb before crashing head-on into the truck. A second woman driving a Toyota Rav4 struck the median in an effort to avoid the truck accident, but she was not injured, the Register story reported.

LAKE ELSINORE, California – Friends of Zachary Butcher, 20, of Lake Forest, who died early Thursday morning in a single vehicle rollover crash on Ortega Highway State Highway 74, are saying the young man was injured, but alive and talking after the crash.

However, they are alleging on internet comment boards that Butcher may have been killed when a second vehicle slammed into the disabled pickup truck, according to published comments on the Orange County Register website.

“The (Toyota) truck never slowed down or hit the breaks even though (driver) Delburt (Parada) tried waving them down and warning them,” said Jessilyn Norman, whose boyfriend Craig Woycheese was a passenger in the pickup truck. “The truck smashed into the side of the truck that had just been rolled, causing the truck to flip back on all 4 wheels.”
Survivors of the wreck told friends that the pickup truck driver Delbert Parada, 21, of Lake Forest was driving under the speed limit and hit a patch of loose gravel causing the back end of the black 2005 Ford F- to spin out of control and hit the side of a mountain wall about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday night. The truck reportedly rolled over four times before coming to a stop. Then a second vehicle, a 1999 Toyota Tacoma driven by Jose Balandran of Wildomar, smashed into the wreckage about a minute after the pickup truck crashed, according a news report. Butcher was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash about 12:16 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash, said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Orange County-based Seegmiller Law Firm. In this crash the police have already determined that no alcohol was involved, but further investigation will be required to determine whether the second driver was distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash deemed to be illegal or reckless.

“Every car accident takes place under unique circumstances, but a full investigation will ultimately reveal what happened and why it happened,” Seegmiller explains. “Families need answers in order to have closure and only a complete investigation into the circumstances will deliver that answer.”

LAKE FOREST – California police in Orange County are searching for the driver of a white van who reportedly struck and killed a 47-year-old man riding a bicycle and fled the scene on Serrano Road, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

Witnesses told Orange County police officers they saw a white van driving away about 10:11 p.m. from the scene of the accident near the intersection of Serrano Road and Ridge Route.

The bicyclist was taken by Orange County paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead, OC sheriff’s officials said. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s department remained at the scene to investigate the OC crash with its Major Accident Reconstruction Team. Police are asking witnesses with any information to call 855-TIP-OCCS.

“Riding a bicycle at night can be especially dangerous because visibility is poor and often drivers are distracted, tired or have been drinking,” said California Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the California Personal Injury specialists, the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Fleeing from the scene of a traffic accident is a criminal act even if the crash was accidental.”
