REDONDO BEACH, CA  - A former UCLA offensive lineman loses part of his leg in a motorcycle accident collision with a taxi cab.

Amir ‘Nick’ Ekbatani, underwent surgery to remove part of his leg, which was shattered below the knee, after the accident.  The location of the amputation gives hope that he will have an opportunity for a prosthetic replacement.

On Saturday night, July 14th, Nick was on his motorcycle, returning from a date when the collision occurred with the cab driver, on the corner of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and Diamond Street.  Nick was ejected from his motorcycle, and transported to an area hospital (County Harbor UCLA).  Doctors attempted to salvage his leg, but were unable to.  It has been credited that he is alive today because he was wearing his motorcycle helmet.

Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm, says:  “As a rider myself I know that driving a motorcycle poses specific safety issues and conditions.  I wish Nick and his family the best during this time.”
