ORANGE, California (Jan. 29, 2013) –  A person who was trapped underneath an overturned tractor trailer truck was rescued Tuesday morning at the scene of the crash on the transition road that connects the eastbound 22 Freeway to the northbound Interstate 5 and 57 Freeways, according to a report in the Orange County Register.

The California Highway Patrol closed down a portion of the freeway just after 10 a.m. so that emergency workers could assist the victim of the truck accident. The closure prompted a SigAlert about 10:30 a.m.

LOS ALAMITOS, California – Justin Messerschmidt, 22, of Huntington Beach was identified Tuesday as the young man killed in a truck accident Sunday night on the 605 freeway after the truck veered off the freeway into a ditch and struck a tree just south of Katella Avenue, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Department.

The 22-year-old driver, a Long Beach man who has not been identified, was also seriously injured early Sunday night after the container truck he was driving crashed into a tree, according to an Orange County Register article.

Messerschmidt died on the scene of the single-vehicle crash, but the driver was transported to a nearby Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Initial reports of the 5:56 p.m. truck accident indicated the containers being carried inside the truck’s camper were marked as radioactive materials, but Orange County Fire Authority hazardous material handlers confirmed the contents was not radioactive. The containers instead were construction-related equipment.

“Police are investigating the truck crash to determine exactly what caused the crash and will likely gather evidence and take reports from any witnesses,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm.

Families of those killed in car accidents have a right to know what the cause of an accident was and if another person is liable for the injury or death of a loved one. Most cases such as this require substantial efforts by law enforcement to determine the cause. An Orange County Personal Injury Law Firm can help put together the pieces and determine whether another party is liable in such an accident.
