Also, police are seeking to find out if there are circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.

Riverside Car Accident Statistics

The city of Perris reported seven traffic fatalities and 162 people injured in traffic accidents in 2009, according to the California Statewide Integrated Traffic report. Additionally, there were 203 deaths and 7,974 injuries recorded in Riverside County traffic accidents in 2009, the report said. In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Rear-end Collisions

Typically the driver of the car that rear-ends another driver is deemed to be at fault for a rear-end car accident because drivers are required to drive at a safe distance to allow for sudden stops due to slowing traffic.

“These types of collisions are often the result of tailgating,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm.  “Also, rear-end collisions can be caused by distracted drivers who are not paying attention to the traffic ahead because they are using a cell phone, texting or engaged in other activities inside the car.”

The above car accident is under investigation by California Highway Patrol officers who will ultimately determine the cause of the crash and who they believe is at fault.
