FONTANA, California – Two passengers were killed Saturday night when the driver of the Honda Civic they were riding in lost control of the vehicle and was struck by a Ford Explorer on N. Riverside Avenue near Sierra Avenue, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 8:08 p.m. on Dec. 29, Pedro Almanza, Jr, 24, of Rialto and Daniel Andrade, 17, of Rialto were reportedly killed in the two-vehicle collision, the coroner reported. The driver of the 2009 Honda Civic they were riding in and the Ford Explorer were both injured in the crash and hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Prior to the crash, the driver of the Honda was traveling in a southbound lane of N. Riverside Avenue, the coroner reported. Fontana Police do not know why the driver lost control, spun around and into the northbound lanes, but they are investigating the crash to determine what happened.

“The families of victims killed in a car crash can hold the driver responsible and liable for their loved one’s wrongful death,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of The Seegmiller Law Firm. “Studies have shown that victims who are represented by an attorney typically obtain 3.5 times more in compensation for their losses than if they handled the claim directly with an insurance adjuster.”

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, California –  Frankie Jo Weaver, 62, of Cerritos was killed Monday morning after tire treat separation led to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 40 just east of Newberry Road, according to a report by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

Weaver was traveling westbound on the I-40 about 11:30 a.m. heading towards Barstow when her rear tire tread separated, she lost control of the vehicle and the car overturned. The vehicle was thrown across the center divider of the freeway into opposing traffic. The driver was alone in the vehicle and wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Liability Faulty Tire Separation Accidents

Who is liable for a death caused by a tire tread separation? There are many factors involved in this type of car accident ranging from poor car maintenance to manufacturer defects. Every year in the United States approximately 400 people are killed and 10,300 are injured due to blowouts and flat tires on our roadways. Roughly half of these tire blowout crashes caused a rollover and certainly some have reportedly involved defective tires such as those recalled by brands including Bridgestone, Firestone, Michelin and Dunlop.

“Losing a loved one in a rollover crash due to tire separation is difficult to cope with, but families often want to know why it happened,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Families of victims killed in  a crash should consider hiring a wrongful death specialist to help them determine whether they have a case against a tire manufacturer or the owner of the vehicle if it belonged to someone else.”
