According to the report, Martinez was driving his vehicle on the highway in this rural area when for unknown reasons he lost control of the vehicle and was ejected into the roadway. He was not wearing his seatbelt, according to the report.  Segura was a front-seat passenger, but was not ejected in the crash.

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the 10:41 p.m. crash to determine its cause.

According to the 2010 California Statewide Integrated Traffic report San Bernardino County reported  203 people killed in the county and 7,915 were injured in all collisions.

“Anytime there is a death involved in a crash police will conduct a complete investigation into the cause of the incident,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “While no one expects to be involved in a car crash, every driver is required under California law to carry adequate insurance to cover their passengers or others injured or killed in a collision.”

RUNNING SPRINGS, California (San Bernardino County) – Michael Boone, 25, of Highland was killed Friday morning after his pickup truck veered off State Route 330 at mile marker 31 and crashed 200 feet down a mountainside in San Bernardino County, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.

About 11:35 a.m., Boone was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra on the state highway also known as City Creek Road at the time of the crash. The roadway runs northeasterly beginning at San Bernardino Valley and passing through the mountains to Running Springs until it stops at State Route 18.

Police are investigating the incident to determine why he veered off the road.

San Bernardino County Fire Rescue Station 91 of Lake Arrowhead recovered Boone’s body from the wreck, the report said.

Motorists involved in crashes where they lose control of the vehicle may not be at fault for the collision if there were other factors involved. Many times there are manufacturer defects that can contribute to a crash.

“Families of victims killed in crashes should always consider whether the vehicle their loved one was driving in was safe for the road,” Attorney West Seegmiller said. “Sometimes buyers of used cars may not get notice of factor recalls that can alert them to dangerous conditions that need to be corrected.”

In this case, Toyota Motor Corporation issued a recall for owners of the 2003 Toyota Tundra on May 17, 2005. The recall was due to a manufacturing issue involving the front suspension lower ball joint. According to the recall notice “There is a possibility that the surface of the ball of the joint may have been scratched and the joint may eventually experience excessive wear and looseness, resulting in increased steering effort.”

The recall notice also warned owners that “the lower ball joint may separate from the knuckle causing loss of steering control and a crash could occur.”

REDLANDS, California – Mercilena Otero, 48, of Los Angeles died Saturday morning after she veered off the Interstate 10 freeway for unknown reasons and struck the cement pillar of the overpass at Tennessee Street, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

According to the report, Otero was driving her 2001 Dodge Durango about 8:49 a.m. when she drove off the freeway onto the dirt shoulder just before the vehicle crashed into the overpass, the report said.

California Highway Patrol officers responding to the scene of the crash do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the crash. Paramedics responding to the scene of the fatal Redlands car accident pronounced Otero dead at the crash site at 9:07 a.m.

The crash is the second at this location this month. On July 18th, Jon Dittemore, 22, of Redlands, crashed his 2003 Toyota after it struck the cement divider in a head-on crash. He died of his injuries 10 days later on Saturday, July 28 at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to a separate press release by the San Bernardino coroner department.

LUDLOW, California — Martha Madrigal, 51, of Keller, Texas was killed and four passengers injured early Saturday morning after the left, rear tire blew out on the gold 2000 Chevy Tahoe Madrigal was driving eastbound on Interstate 40 just west of Kelbaker Roadd, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

Madrigal lost control of the Tahoe about 1 a.m. at which point the vehicle rolled over multiple times in the center divider.  Madrigal was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 AM. The four injured passengers who were riding in the Tahoe were taken by paramedics to area hospitals for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

“Rollover crashes can take place for a variety of reasons including a flat tire, but police must investigate this crash to determine if there were any other contributing factors that may have caused the accident,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Other factors to be considered include product liability of the tire manufacturer, negligence by an automotive repair facility that replaced the tires or poor road maintenance.”
