GARDEN GROVE, California — A Stanton man was killed after his car slammed into tree in Garden Grove at 2:03 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Orange County Sherriff-Coroner’s office.

Raul Silva-Perez, a 28-year-old Stanton resident was driving his Lexus eastbound on Chapman Avenue when the vehicle struck a curb and crashed into a tree and a wall on Chapman Avenue, according to the Orange County Register.

Officials pronounced Silva-Perez dead at the scene and a passenger who was also in the car was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, the report said.
Garden Grove Police Officials told the Register that alcohol and speeding may have contributed to the fatal accident.

Attorney West Seegmiller founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm said he hears about accidents like these too often and that the aftermath can devastate families and friends.
“Situations like these are very tough to deal but the passenger who was injured may still be in need of medical treatment because of reckless driving,” Seegmiller said, “Even though the driver did not make it, he may have been ultimately responsible for the accident which caused injuries to his passenger.”

Mothers Against Drunk Driving reports that in 2011, 29 percent of traffic accident deaths were DUI related in California. That number is down 14 percent from the previous year, MADD reports.
