LAS VEGAS Nevada, (April 25,2013) – According to an article by 8NewsNow, a man who was severely beaten back in October of 2011 has succumbed to his injuries and died April 23, 2013. The 57-year-old Las Vegas man died from blunt force head trauma. His death has been named a homicide. The incident occurred back in April 2011 at the 200 block of W. Utah Avenue. Police were called to the location after reports were made of an unconscious man lying on the ground. The officers found the man and noticed immediately that he had a severe head injury. Paramedics and an ambulance arrived and took the man to University Medical Center for treatment.

HENDERSON, Nevada (April 15, 2013) – Jeffrey R. Phelps, 36, of Henderson, Nevada, is suspected of driving drunk and causing an accident that killed a 68-year-old woman from Hawaii on Sunday night. Phelps was driving a Nissan Altima going eastbound on Volunteer Boulevard, near Executive Airport Drive. Phelps rear-ended a Toyota RAV4 and then continued driving east on Volunteer before swerving into the wrong lane and crashing head on into a Toyota Camry going westbound.

Edith Maddagan Jamon, 68, of Waipahu was a passenger in the Toyota Camry and had to be airlifted to University Medical Center where she later died. Phelps is being held at the Henderson Detention Center on counts of DUI resulting in death as well as attempting a hit-and-run. (Phelps walked away after the accident but was found shortly after).

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (April 02, 2013) – A judge in Nevada has set bail at $3.5 million Monday for the teen responsible for the death of five family members. The incident occurred on an interstate freeway north of Las Vegas. 18-year-old Jean Ervin Soriano was jailed for felony drunk driving after “he had too many beers” before driving, he states. If convicted of the charges, Soriano could face eight to twenty years in state prison. The dead were identified as Genaro Fernandez, 41, of Norwalk; Raudel Fernandez-Avila, 49, and Belen Fernandez, 53, both of Lynwood; and Angela Sandoval, 13, and Leonardo Fernandez-Avila, 45, both of Los Angeles. A 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman who were riding in the van were declared critical status at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.

MESQUITE, Nevada (March 30, 2013) – The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting that five people from California were killed in a rollover crash that occurred early this morning. The accident happened about 3:00 a.m. on the I-15 south at mile marker 100 around Mesquite.

Those killed were identified as Genaro Fernandez, 41, Raudel Fernandez-Avila, 49, Belen Fernandez, 53, Angela Sandoval, 13, Leonardo Fernandez-Avila, 45, all from Baldwin Park in California.

A Chevrolet van rear-ended a Dodge Durango SUV and the impact caused both vehicles to roll over. Five of the seven people in the Astrovan were killed in the two-vehicle crash. The other two people in the Astrovan were injured and taken to UMC in critical condition. The only two people to survive from the Dodge Durango were transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Jean Soriano, the 18-year-old driver of the Dodge Durango was taken into custody at Clark County Detention Center and has been charged with driving under the influence. More information will be forthcoming.

HENDERSON, Nevada (March 29, 2013) – According to a recent report from Clark County Coroner’s Office, Jose Edward Gonzalez, 30, of Riverside, California, died from multiple injuries after a severe car accident occurred last Tuesday morning on southbound U.S. 95 in Henderson. Gonzalez was driving a black Fiat and for unknown reasons ended up driving north in the southbound lanes before crashing head-on with a Mazda vehicle. The driver of the Mazda is in critical condition at University Medical Center.
