LAS VEGAS, Nevada (May 23, 2013) – According to an article in The Las Vegas Sun this morning, the toll of food poisoning victims at Firefly Tapas Kitchen and Bar has now reached 294 people. According to health officials, chorizo sausage from the restaurant was tested positive for salmonella. It is uncertain if Firefly staff was negligent in the preparation of the chorizo or if the chorizo was contaminated before it arrived at Firefly.

“Whether the chorizo was contaminated with Salmonella before it arrived at Firefly is not entirely the issue, since sausage, when cooked at proper temperatures, will be rid of deadly bacteria such as salmonella,” states West Seegmiller, owner of The Seegmiller Law Firm in Las Vegas.

Some food scientists state this is the biggest outbreak of food poisoning from a restaurant they have ever seen, especially since a total of eight different groups called the Nevada Health District after just one night of eating at Firefly.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (May 22, 2013) – According to an article online by 8NewsNow, registered nurse sex offender, Paul Santiago, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old foster child while she was in his care at Montevista Hospital. The hospital had hired Santiago even though he was already a registered sex offender. The civil suit against Montevista Hospital recently settled. Santiago’s victim has since become an adult and has had to wait eight years before seeing Santiago brought to justice. Meanwhile Santiago faces two additional lawsuits from women who claim he sexually assaulting them while was working at another medical clinic.

“I cannot understand why a sex offender was ever hired at a large hospital or any clinic. It is mind-boggling that he (Santiago) has been free to practice nursing for so many years,” states West Seegmiller, owner and founder of The Seegmiller Law Firm.

OTAY MESA, California (May 22, 2013) – According to an article in UT San Diego, one woman was killed and another injured in a 2-car accident that occurred on Coronado Avenue near 27th Street in Otay Mesa last Thursday morning. The accident occurred at about 8:40 a.m. when a Ford Contour was driving eastbound and veered into the wrong lane crashing head-on with a Toyota Camry. The Contour was knocked onto its roof in the center of the lane, trapping the 29-year-old driver. She was eventually freed from the wreckage by a courageous police officer- but was declared dead. The female driver of the Camry was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Contour driver is thought to have caused the crash because she accelerated into the wrong lane.

“It’s a tragedy that this woman was unable to be saved, especially after the officer so valiantly went in to cut her free of her seatbelt,” states West Seegmiller, owner of The Seegmiller Law Firm.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (May 22, 2013) – According to an article in 8NewsNow, the source of salmonella poisoning that occurred between April 21 and April 26 at Firefly Restaurant on Paradise Road has been found in chorizo used at the restaurant during this time. Cooked chorizo, a type of sausage, was tested positive for salmonella. Health district officials used trace-back efforts and found that raw chorizo contained salmonella before it arrived at the restaurant. Apparently the way the chorizo was cooked did not adequately eliminate the poisonous bacteria. John Simmons released this statement through his public relations firm today: “We appreciate the Southern Nevada Health District’s thorough review and swift conclusion to this matter. From day one, our concern has always been doing everything we could for those affected and doing everything we could to use this time to make Firefly the safest place to eat in southern Nevada.”
