TUSTIN, California – Susanna De La Riva, 21, of Santa Ana was killed and a second woman was injured early Friday morning in a crash between a car and an SUV at Tustin Ranch Road and near the exit of the southbound Interstate 5 off ramp, according to a Orange County Sheriff Coroner press release.
Tustin Police Department officers are investigating the 5 a.m. crash to determine what happened.
De Le Riva was allegedly driving a gray Acura and was exiting the I-5 freeway onto Tustin Ranch Road, according to news reports. She was attempting to turn left on the road when she was reportedly broadsided by the SUV and struck on the driver’s side of her vehicle. The driver of the black SUV sustained minor injuries in the Tustin car accident. De Le Riva became trapped inside the car and reportedly died of her injuries at the scene of the car crash. The other victim was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
A SigAlert was issued at 5:27 a.m. for the southbound 5 freeway at the Tustin Ranch off ramp. A second SigAlert was issued at 5:40 a.m. for the southbound 55 freeway transition to the southbound 5 freeway, but it reopened about 7 a.m.
