SAN JACINTO, California (March 5, 2013) – Two men are being heralded as heroes for coming to the aid of a 76-year-old woman Tuesday afternoon who was being attacked by a pit bull dog on Commonwealth Avenue, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The pit bull bit the woman’s arm, legs and her side as it dragged her along a 4-foot embankment in an area adjacent to a parking lot near a Wal Mart store. Bystanders who saw came rushing to help the woman including one man with a baseball bat and another with golf club. The men beat off the pit bull, but the woman suffered severe puncture wounds and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries, the police report said.
“Vicious dog attacks such as this one are all too common and anyone who is injured by a pit bull or another dog should consider filing a claim against the irresponsible owner,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “The men who came to this woman’s aid are truly heroes for what they did and may have even saved her life.”
The Ramona Animal Control seized the dog and it remains in quarantine for 10 days.
