Saturday, November 30th, 2013

FONTANA, California (Nov. 30, 2013) — Roberto Garcia Cardenas, 72, of Fontana was killed Friday afternoon in a car accident on Sierra Avenue just north of Summit Avenue, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.

About 4:11 p.m., Cardenas was traveling southbound in his Honda Odyssey van when another motorist in a Toyota Yaris drove past Cardenas on the right shoulder of the roadway.  The Toyota lost control which caused the Honda to broadside the Toyota.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the crash, but Cardenas died at the scene. The other driver and occupants of the Toyota were injured and taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The Fontana Police Department is investigating the crash to determine its cause.

“Police will determine liability for this accident and the responsible driver will be held accountable for the other driver’s losses,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “My condolences go out to the family of the man who died in this crash as the come to terms with his loss and try to piece together what happened.”

SANTA CLARITA, California (Nov. 30, 2013) — Two men were killed Saturday afternoon in a solo car crash and one of those who died was identified as Paul Walker, 40, an actor who is best-known for his role in “The Fast and the Furious” movies, according to a report by TMZ.

About 3:30 p.m., the driver of a red Porsche GT reportedly crashed into a tree and a light pole in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop between Hercules Street and Constellation Road after losing control of the vehicle. Walker was a passenger in the vehicle and both occupants died in the fiery wreck after the car became engulfed in flames, the report said.

According to news reports, Walker and a driver Roger Rodas had just left a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide that was held at Always Evolving Performance Motors on Constellation Road, the Santa Clarita News reported. Rodas is CEO of the performance automotive shop for high-end vehicles. Several bystanders grabbed fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the flames and rescue the victims, but they were unable to help them.

Los Angeles County Fire Department emergency workers also rushed to the scene of the crash, but were unable to assist the driver and the passenger who were trapped in the wrecked vehicle.

“My condolences go out to the family and friends of these two men as they cope with such a sudden and tragic loss,” said Attorney West Seegmiller.

Driver Arrested After Two Dead, Three Injured in Car Crash

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, California (Nov. 27, 2013) – A joy ride in a stolen car turned deadly Tuesday afternoon as two teenagers were killed and three others were injured including two who were critically hurt.

A group of friends were traveling in the alleged stolen vehicle and four were ejected when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a rollover crash on Dillon Road about a mile north of Brack Road, according to a press release by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner.

The cash happened about 4 p.m. when the teenager allegedly lost control of the 2013 Hyundai Genesis that was reportedly stolen from Indio. The teen was arrested and has not been formally charged yet, but under the circumstances the driver will likely face manslaughter charges due to the two deaths.

Andres Romo, 18, of La Quinta was taken by ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries about 6:38 p.m., the coroner said. The young man was ejected during the crash as he was not wearing his seatbelt, the report said. A second unrestrained passenger has not been identified and died at the scene of the crash about 4:16 p.m.

According to MyDessert.com, a third passenger, a female age 17, was taken by helicopter ambulance to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs where she was listed in critical condition. A fourth person who was injured was a male who was transported by ambulance to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio. One other male suffered minor injuries as he was not ejected from the vehicle.

The traffic accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol’s Indio station, the coroner said.

“My condolences go out to the families of all these young people as they cope with this sudden tragedy and try to piece together what exactly happened,” said Attorney West Seegmiller.
