FULLERTON, California – Richard Paine, 41, of La Habra was struck and killed by two vehicles early Wednesday morning including one driver that fled the scene of the car crash on the northbound lane of Bastanchury Road at Morelia Avenue, according to an article in the Orange County Register.
Paramedics transported Paine to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton following the 10:20 a.m. crash where he died at 10:45 a.m., the report said.
The bicyclist was initially struck by a black sedan and the impact threw him into the path of a second vehicle, a silver Volkswagen Jetta, whose driver stopped.
“Sadly bicyclists and pedestrians are especially vulnerable to being hit by motorists,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Drivers need to leave plenty of space when passing a bicycle rider and consider slowing down if it’s safe to do so.”
