SAN BERNARDINO, California – Carl Evans, 30, of Crestline killed early Sunday morning as he was walking on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Highway 18 at mile marker 8.74 near Lower Waterman Canyon Road, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner report.
Evans was allegedly struck from behind by a suspected drunk driver who was also traveling northbound drifted over into the shoulder of the road. Evans died at the scene of the pedestrian accident at 3:53 a.m., the report said.
Margaret Stegenga, 45, of Crestline was driving the vehicle that struck Evans, but police did not arrest her at the accident scene as the investigation is underway.
The pedestrian accident is under investigation by the San Bernardino Police Department.

Additionally, there were 203 killed and 7,915 injured in all traffic accidents in the county in 2010.
In California, there were 623 pedestrians killed and 12,668 injured in 2010, according to the CHP traffic report.
National data compiled by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Authority shows that pedestrian injuries and fatalities in the United States were up 4.9% in 2010 to 4,280 deaths and injuries were up 19% in 2010 to 70,000 people injured.
