Man Injured in Bicycle Accident with Car at Avalon Boulevard Off Ramp
CARSON, California (Jan. 2, 2014) – A bicyclist was injured Thursday afternoon when he was struck by the driver of a grey Dodge Charger at the on the Avalon Boulevard off ramp to the westbound 91 Gardena Freeway, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 12:08 p.m., the CHP received a 9-1-1 call regarding the bicycle accident involving a male cyclist who needed medical attention after being struck by a driver. Paramedics responded to the scene of the bike accident and treated the rider at the scene. The report did not indicate whether the rider was transported to a hospital or not.
Bicyclists are especially vulnerable to injury when sharing the road with motorists here in California, said Attorney West Seegmiller.
“Sometimes cyclists can sustain a traumatic brain injury during a fall from a bike after they are hit by a car,” Seegmiller said. “This can take place even when there has been no head impact. The symptoms show up later when the victim can’t remember names or events as well.
It’s important for victims to seek immediate medical assistance following this type of crash and follow up a doctor. There will be an accident report pending for this crash and it will contain an analysis of the collision factors based on evidence collected by police. This report will establish fault, Seegmiller said. The report is typically available within 30 days.
