SOUTH LOS ANGELES: Boy, 15, Attacked by 3 Pit Bull Dogs in Neighbor’s Backyard

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

SOUTH LOS ANGELES, California (Oct. 23, 2013) — A 15-year-old boy was mauled on his face and neck by his neighbor’s three pit bull dogs in the 5000 block of 4th Avenue, according to a report by NBC News.

Isaiah Robertson was inside the neighbor’s fenced backyard cleaning up after the dogs he had known since they were puppies when the dogs turned on him. His grandmother heard him screaming and came to his rescue as well as his mother and several neighbors who helped to fend off the animals with a baseball bat.

One of the dogs was stabbed to get them to back off from the boy and his rescuers.

The teenager was taken to hospital after the dog bite attack and received stitches and was home on Tuesday afternoon, but so were the dogs. Los Angeles Animal Services returned all three pit bull dogs home to their owner.

There will be an investigation into whether the dogs should be permanently removed from the home or put down, but no actions were taken at this time because the attack took place on private property.

“Pit bull dogs are especially dangerous because once they attack they are difficult to stop,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “The dog’s owners may be held liable for this young man’s injuries and medical costs.”

RIVERSIDE: Pit Bull Dog Ordinance Passes Requiring Owners to Spray or Neuter Pets

Wednesday, October 9th, 2013

New Ordinance Will Not Prevent Vicious Dog Bite Attacks

RIVERSIDE, California (Oct. 9, 2013) — The owners of Pit Bull dogs older than 4 months will be required to spray or neuter their animals in the wake of a new ordinance that passed in a 5-0 vote Tuesday by the Riverside County supervisors.

The new law, which will affect only those dogs that are kept in the unincorporated areas of the county, is not likely to prevent vicious Pit Bull attacks or other dog bites, said Attorney West Seegmiller.

“People can still own a Pit Bull dog and all breeds of dogs can turn on a person and attack them,” Seegmiller said. “The victims of these vicious attacks are often left with permanent physical and emotional scars that last far longer than the painful attack.”

Indeed, many dog owners whose animals attack another person are not homeowners and lack insurance if there is an attack on someone. Surgery to repair bite wounds can be expensive and painful for a victim of a dog bite attack, but sadly many are often left to pay their own medical bills because a dog owner cannot be located or they lack coverage or financial resources.

“Every situation is unique when it comes to a dog attack, but ultimately those who wish to own an animal should be held liable for injuries or damages they cause to others,” Seegmiller said. “A personal injury attorney can help some victims obtain compensation for their injuries.”

The new Riverside ordinance has exceptions for police dogs and breeders.

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA: Pit Bull Attacks Children on Sunday Afternoon, Dog is Shot and Killed

Monday, October 7th, 2013

SAN BERNARDINO, (October 07, 2013) – A pit bull attacked a group of children yesterday afternoon at a residence located at the 2500 block of Genevieve Street, according to a  report by the Press Enterprise. The dog bite incident occurred at about 2:42 p.m. when the dog bit one of the children in the thigh, the report said. Three or four other children suffered graze wounds in the dog bite attack.

“In the wake of a new pit bull ordinance that is moving forward in San Bernardino, this is a very sensitive issue and many people are affected by attacks from this specific breed of dog. The debate continues to rage as to whether these attacks are the result of nurture or nature,” states attorney West Seegmiller, founder of The Seegmiller Law Firm in Newport Beach and Las Vegas.

The personal injury attorney, who has offices to serve clients throughout California including San Bernardino, says every case is different and depends upon the circumstances.

COLTON: Boy, 2, Mauled to Death by Pack of Pit Bull Dogs in Uncle’s Backyard

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

Colton: Boy, 2, Killed by 5 Pit Bull Dogs Owned by Uncle

Rialto Boy, 2, Dies of Injuries After Pit Bull Attack at Uncle’s Home

COLTON, California (Sept. 24, 2013) – Samuel Zamudio, 2, of Rialto was killed late Monday afternoon when the toddler was attacked by as many as eight Pit Bull mixed dogs owned in the backyard of his uncle’s home in the 700 block of W. Citrus, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.

About 5:30 p.m., the little boy was being looked after by his uncle in his home when the toddler allegedly crawled out a window in the backyard where the pack of dogs were kept, neighbors told KTLA News. The uncle did not know where the boy was and was reportedly looking in the house for about 20 minutes before he was found with numerous bites to his body in the backyard surrounded by the dogs, KTLA reported.

Paramedics responded to the home and transported the boy to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he died less than an hour later at 6:07 p.m., the coroner reported. Police reportedly arrested the boy’s uncle and grandmother who were looking after the child.

Animal control officers seized the dogs and they were quarantined. The Colton Police Department is investigating the fatal dog attack and an autopsy will confirm the cause of death.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort this boy’s family and friends as they cope with such an incredible loss,” Attorney West Seegmiller said.  “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them as they try to piece together what happened and come to terms with his death.”
