HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Dec. 30, 2013) – A suspected drunken driver was arrested following a major-injury single-vehicle crash involving a parked car at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Demion Lane, according to a press release issued by the Huntington Beach Police Department.
About 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2013, a 56-year-old man driving a silver 2012 Nissan Cube slammed into an unoccupied, parked gray 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck on the westbound lanes of Ellis Avenue. The vehicle was legally parked against the curb at the time of the crash, the report said.
After the crash, the driver was trapped in his vehicle until paramedics and rescue workers arrived to extricate him from the wreckage. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, but released to the hospital due to his extensive injuries, the report said.
The police department’s Accident Reconstruction specialists are investigating the crash and seeking help from any witnesses as they put together a police report on this accident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Huynh at 714-536-5670.
“There is no excuse for driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, an supporter of the mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). “If you can’t afford a cab ride home when you go out drinking or find a designated driver, you should not go out to the bars and drink – period.”
