HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Dec. 30, 2013) – A suspected drunken driver was arrested following a major-injury single-vehicle crash involving a parked car at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Demion Lane, according to a press release issued by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

About 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2013, a 56-year-old man driving a silver 2012 Nissan Cube slammed into an unoccupied, parked gray 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck on the westbound lanes of Ellis Avenue. The vehicle was legally parked against the curb at the time of the crash, the report said.

After the crash, the driver was trapped in his vehicle until paramedics and rescue workers arrived to extricate him from the wreckage. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, but released to the hospital due to his extensive injuries, the report said.

The police department’s Accident Reconstruction specialists are investigating the crash and seeking help from any witnesses as they put together a police report on this accident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Huynh at 714-536-5670.

“There is no excuse for driving under the influence of alcohol,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, an supporter of the mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). “If you can’t afford a cab ride home when you go out drinking or find a designated driver, you should not go out to the bars and drink – period.”

Police Suspect Driver Was Drinking in Fatal Crash; Passenger Dies at Scene

LOS ANGELES, California (Dec. 30, 2013) – A woman is dead and a man critically injured early Monday morning after a single-vehicle collision with a light pole in the 17000 block of Roscoe Boulevard between Balboa Boulevard and Hayvenhurst Avenue in the Lake Balboa area, according to a dispatch by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

About 12:32 a.m., the driver of the late-model gold Ford Focus reportedly lost control of his vehicle on a curve in the roadway where there are railroad tracks, veered over into opposing traffic and struck the light standard. His female passenger died upon impact in the crash.

The driver was unconscious and trapped following the crash, according to fire officials.  News reports indicated that beer cans fell out of the vehicle during his rescue.

Firefighters were able to cut and rescue the driver then rush him to a nearby hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Police suspect alcohol and speed may be involved, but the investigation is not complete, according to a report by KTLA News.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and charges may be pending if it is determined that alcohol is involved.

“My prayers go out to the family of this woman as they cope with such an incredible loss,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “There is no excuse for driving drunk period. Police will likely press criminal charges against this driver and the family may also file a civil lawsuit against her for the death of this man.”

Anyone who loses a loved one in a DUI crash may contact Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) for assistance in coping with such a loss.

UPDATE: Repeat Drunk Driver Kourosh Keshmiri, 27, of Mission Viejo Arrested on DUI Charges

MISSION VIEJO, California (Dec. 29, 2013) – Kenneth Jackson, 60, of Mission Viejo was killed and two others suffered minor injuries early Sunday morning when a repeat drunken driver on a suspended license crashed through the front of Jackson’s home into a bedroom in the 26000 block of Pacato Drive at Olivaro, according to a report by ABC News.

About 3 a.m., Orange County Sheriff’s officers told reporters that Jackson was sleeping in his bedroom located at the front of the home when a red Cadillac crashed through the outside wall. A second person in the home at the time was not injured.

Driver Kourosh Keshmiri and his passenger suffered minor injuries, but they were not taken to a hospital for treatment. Keshmiri was arrested after it was determined he was under the influence of alcohol. Further charges may be pending after the case is brought before the District Attorney’s office, police said.

Indeed, Kourosh is a repeat drunk driver with a conviction in August 2010 and a pending DUI case from June 2013, according to a press release by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. His prior conviction and pending case will make him eligible to be held on second-degree murder charges for this man’s death, said Attorney West Seegmiller.

“There is no excuse for drunken driving,”  Seegmiller said. “The victim who was killed wasn’t even safe from this DUI driver in his bed in his own home. The driver should be held accountable for what he has done both in criminal court and in civil court.”
