Fatal Crash on 210 Freeway at Wheatland Avenue in Sunland
SUNLAND, California (Dec. 18, 2013) – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning in a crash with a van on the eastbound Interstate 210 Freeway near Wheatland Avenue, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.
About 7:20 a.m., CHP officers reported the crash between the two drivers and noted the motorcyclist was laying on the right side of the freeway in the No. 4 lane. The Nos. 1, 2 and 3 lanes were open to traffic about 8 a.m. At least one person was taken to Pacifica Hospital for treatment of injuries, but there were no further details.
A SigAlert was issued about 7:39 a.m. for the crash.
“As a motorcycle rider myself, I know firsthand the dangers of riding on our busy freeways,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Indeed, my prayers are with the family and friends of as they are now coping with his sudden loss and trying to piece together what happened.”
Los Angeles Accident Statistics
There were 530 people killed and 50,153 injured in traffic accidents in Los Angeles in 2010, according to statistics compiled by the California Highway Patrol Statewide Integrated Traffic Report. Statistics show that 197 of those killed in Los Angeles were involved in crashes involving alcohol, 195 were pedestrians, 25 were bicyclists and 74 were motorcyclists, the CHP report said.
