SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (October 18, 2013) – An Amtrak train collided into a commercial truck that had its tail parked on the track while the train rode through. The collision occurred at Sorrento Valley Road and Sorrento Valley Boulevard at about 3 p.m.
The train was traveling northbound when it struck the big rig which knocked the train off the tracks and flipped it over onto its side, according to San Diego Police.
The collision also involved a Del Sol Landscape delivery truck and injured two passengers inside. Somehow the delivery truck and at least one other car alongside the tracks were caught in the aftermath of the collision. The semi-truck was caused to flip and spin and crashed into the delivery truck as well as the other vehicle.
Medics arrived on the scene and treated the two delivery truck drivers before having them transported to Scripps Memorial. They are currently being treated for their injuries. The train engineer was also taken to the hospital and as of now, there have been no train passenger injuries reported.
According to San Diego Deputy Sheriffs, the crossing arms and moving lights of the track area were working properly. More information will be forthcoming pending investigations.
