SAN DIEGO, California — Craig Steven Donato, 48, of San Marcos was killed Sunday night after his Dodge PT Cruiser crashed into the back with a slow-moving tractor trailer truck in the No. 4 lane of the northbound State Route 163 Highway just south of Genesee Avenue, according to a report by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office.

About 8:35 p.m., Donato’s vehicle slammed into the rear of the truck’s trailer and he was pinned in the wreckage until emergency workers came to extricate him. However, Donato’s death was confirmed upon their arrival due to critical injuries sustained in the car accident, the report said.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash to determine its cause and any contributing factors, but at this point there are no other vehicles involved.
