SAN CLEMENTE, California – The driver of a Saturn is dead, his passenger and two other people were injured early Wednesday morning following a high-speed pursuit between the deceased man and police on and off the Interstate 5 freeway, according to an Orange County Register article.
The high-speed chase lasted several minutes and ended about 2:30 a.m. when the driver of the four-door Saturn ran through a red light and struck a commercial box truck at the intersection of Avenida Pico and Avenue Vista Hermosa.
The police pursuit took officers through several San Clemente streets, onto the northbound Interstate 5 freeway and back off again as they attempted to stop the driver. However, police were unable to catch up with the driver before he crashed and was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to Mission Hospital. Two others in the truck reportedly suffered minor to moderate injuries. They were both transported to San Clemente Hospital.
