According to an article in The Las Vegas Sun, Carnival Cruise Ship passengers were excited to finally be docking in Mobile Alabama after five days at sea with no power and no working toilettes. Due to a fire in one of the boiler rooms, the ship lost power and plumbing ceased to function. As a result, guests were forced to stay trapped on the ship for five days before tugboats were able to reach them and pull the ship into harbor. According to numerous guests, the experience was horrible. The stench from excrement permeated the ship and the heat from the lower levels made it smell even worse. Guests had no running water and couldn’t bathe. People weren’t able to get cell phone connections and many feared they would lose their jobs. In Addition, the weather at night was cold and some passengers were forced out of their cabins due to smoke, and had to spend nights sleeping on the deck with blankets. Carnival CEO Gerry Cahill apologized at a news conference late Thursday, before he apologized again to passengers through a bullhorn.
