LYNWOOD, California — Two young children were killed and two others injured after a 26-year-old mother crashed the car they were riding in on the Long Beach (710) freeway, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times newspaper.
The unidentified female driver was traveling northbound on the freeway just south of Imperial Highway at what was described as a high rate of speed when she lost control of the black Honda Accord and veered off the roadway down an embankment. The Honda first struck a fence and then lipped over and struck a tree at the bottom of the ditch.
Despite all passengers wearing seat belts, two girls ages 4 and 6 years old died in the car crash. The driver, as well as two boys ages 5 and 8 years old, were injured in the crash and transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital for treatment. The younger boy was listed in critical condition and the older boy suffered minor injuries in the crash. The mother was also in critical condition at the hospital.
None of the victims have been identified, nor have police confirmed which children are those of the mother.
“Police will likely conduct a full investigation into why this crash took place including whether the vehicle she was driving was defective in any way or if any other vehicles were involved,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, Long Beach personal injury lawyer.
