Motorhome Crashes into Lazy J’s Roadhouse Killing Driver in Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELSINORE, California – David Dobbs was killed after his motorhome plowed into Lazy J’s Roadhouse at 18815 Grand Avenue just before 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to a report by CAL Fire Riverside County Fire Department.

CAL FIRE/Riverside County firefighters managed to free Dobbs who was trapped inside the vehicle about 10:47 p.m., according to the report. The emergency workers had to use heavy equipment to stabilize the structure of the building in order to remove the victim from the vehicle.

According to the Lake Elsinore Wildomar Patch, the driver who died at the scene of the crash was driving a Gulf Stream Independence RV and he was a member of the local American Legion.

“Photographs of the motorhome crash show the driver may have been in the parking lot and may have accidentally accelerated instead of applying brakes, but police will investigate the scene to determine exactly what happened,” said Attorney West Thomas, founder of the Thomas Law Firm.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash in order to find out who is liable to the other party for damages, said Thomas. The investigation will seek to find out if either driver was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or distracted. Also, police are seeking to find out if there are circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.

In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.
