UPDATE:  The Orange County Sheriff Coroner has Identified Kerensa Donselman, 32, and John Knowles, 43, both of Capistrano Beach as the two people who died in the crash.

DANA POINT, California (Oct. 15, 2013) – Two people are dead and four were injured Sunday afternoon in a 4-vehicle crash involving a suspected drunk driver on Pacific Coast Highway at Beach Road, according to a KABC report.

About 1:20 p.m., a 43-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were both killed in the crash, three people were hospitalized and one person suffered minor injuries, the report said.

The crash took place when driver of a Volkswagen Jetta heading northbound on PCH attempted to pass a Mini-Cooper driven by a student driver. As the driver attempted to pass the slower vehicle on the two-lane road, the Jetta struck two drivers in a van and a sedan on the opposite side of the roadway.  The Jetta hit a white minivan and a Honda Civic and then the vehicle split into two. The two people inside the Jetta died at the scene of the accident.

The white minivan overturned onto its side and a 49-year-old man and 50-year-old woman inside were seriously injured and a 53-year-old woman was injured in the Honda Civic.

A Mini-Cooper traveling in the same direction as the Volkswagen was also involved in the crash, but its 15-year-old student driver suffered only minor injuries. The driving instructor in the vehicle was not hurt.

Paramedics transported the injured by ambulance to Mission Regional Trauma Center. The incident is under investigation by the Orange County Major Accident Reconstruction Team.

DANA POINT, California (July 19, 2013) – There was a three-vehicle traffic collision on the northbound side of Interstate 5 just south of Stonehill Drive, Thursday night, according to a dispatch report filed by the California Highway Patrol.

Just before 10:30 p.m., CHP officers received a 911 call informing them of an accident involving a black van, a BMW and a Ford Escape.

Emergency officials arrived on scene and treated two people with minor injuries. In addition, paramedics transported at least two people to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

“If you are a victim of a traffic collision, an accident that was not your fault, you deserve representation that will ensure your needs are taken care of,” Attorney West Seegmiller said. “Medical expense and automobile expenses can add up, and if you weren’t responsible, you shouldn’t have to pay.”

DANA POINT, California – Camp Pendleton Marines Sgt. Jeremiah Callahan, 23, Cpl. Jason Chleborad, 22, and Cpl. Christopher Arzola, 21, all passengers in a car driven at high speed by a fourth Marine, were killed early Tuesday morning after the driver struck a tree on Golden Lantern Street, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The marines were identified in a Feb. 16 news report by NBC

Two of the passengers were found dead at the scene of the tragic crash. The third passenger died at Mission Hospital. Meanwhile the driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, remains in critical condition in intensive care, according to police reports. The 2005 Dodge Stratus was apparently driving north on Golden Lantern Street about 2:05 a.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle, the report said.

The Marines were all stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, an amphibious training base for the United States Marine Corps. The trip to Dana Point is about 28 miles up the coast of the Pacific Ocean from the base.

Callahan, 23, of Chadron, Neb., and Chleborad, 22, of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Arzola, 21, of Westfield, Mass., were all data network specialists with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, according to United States Marine Corps records examined by an NBC news story.

Investigation into the Crash

Whenever there are serious injuries or death resulting from a car crash police will conduct a complete investigation to determine whether there were any contributing factors that may have caused the car accident.  In this case, police have indicated that speed was a factor, but no other details have been shared at this time.

In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.

“I’m truly saddened by this tragedy,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “The news also comes just days after another car crash killed a young Marine in San Diego.”
