Three Killed in Crash into Reno’s Pizzeria in Studio City

Monday, September 10th, 2012

LOS ANGELES, California – Three young adults were killed early Sunday morning in a fiery crash after the driver crashed into Reno’s Pizzeria on Ventura Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue in Studio City, according to a Los Angeles Times article.

Pavel Volodkovich was allegedly behind the wheel of the BMW about 3:35 p.m. after leaving a birthday party with his two friends Jason Shmelnik, 21, of Los Angeles and Ekaterina Botvinieva, 23, of New York.

Police believe that Volodkovich, of Los Angeles, was speeding at the time of the crash and friends told a CBS news reporter that he may have been drinking prior to the crash.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, struck several trees and crashed into the pizza restaurant which was closed at the time.

“Police will investigate whether the driver was drinking prior to the crash,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, a wrongful death specialist. “Too many young people are involved in these types of crashes every year and sadly many of them are preventable.”

Eastbound I-10 In Los Angeles Shut Down After Shooting, Police Cruiser Collision

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Officers are investigating a chase and shooting involving a Ford Mustang and a police cruiser.

At around 3:15 am, a silver pickup truck shot into a Ford Mustang, striking the passenger in the car.  He was transported to an area hospital with a wound to the neck and is listed in stable condition.  The driver exited the freeway, and authorities proceeded to shut down the freeway to investigate.  As some of the officers were navigating and detouring traffic, a suspected drunk driver hit one of the police cruisers.  Officers were not located in the vehicle and weren’t injured.  The driver of the other car who collided with the police cruiser was arrested at the scene.

This shooting could have been compounded into more tragedy had the police officers still be in the vehicle.  Auto collisions occur for any number of reasons – Drunk driving, hit and run, losing control of the vehicle, and distracted driving.   Some injuries may lead to long-term ailments requiring pain medication, therapy or loss of function. You may require time off work to recover from injuries completely and those costs are not likely part of the settlement they will offer you.

MONTEREY PARK: Suspected Drunk Driver Salvador Tamayo Arrested After Fatal Crash on 60 Freeway

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

MONTEREY PARK, California  -  Police arrested Salvador Tamayo, 39, of Baldwin Park Thursday night on suspicion of felony drunk driving following a double fatal crash on the State Route 60 (Pomona) Freeway, according to news reports.

Tamayo was driving his 2003 Ford F-250 pickup on the freeway near Atlantic Boulevard about 10:16 p.m. when he allegedly broadsided a 2008 Honda Civic that was disabled in the fast lane pushing it roughly 200 feet and landing on top of it. The Honda, driven by Jorge A. Perez, 34, became disabled after it struck a bi-rig truck and spun out of control. Perez and his passenger, Beatriz Castillo, both of Los Angeles were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

California Highway Patrol officers responding to the scene of the crash determined that Tamayo was under the influence of alcohol in violation of California Vehicle Code Section 23152 (a).

“Drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes can be charged with vehicular manslaughter under California Penal Code Section 191.5 (a),” said Attorney West Seegmiller, a lawyer whose practice represents victims of drunk drivers.
