SAN DIEGO, California (May31, 2013) – The driver that was involved in a head-on collision on SR-56 in which another motorist was killed, was arrested Wednesday. According to authorities, Timothy Barnette, 18, was arrested on a felony count of DUI of a controlled substance causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Investigators did not disclose which controlled substance was identified in the toxicology report.
The accident occurred when Nick Hart, 22, was driving westbound on SR-56 and Barnette veered his vehicle across the center median and smashed head-on into Hart’s vehicle. Hart died in the wreckage of his car. Barnette was treated at La Jolla trauma center for severe injuries. Investigators suspected that Barnette had been under the influence of something at the time of the accident. Toxicology reports proved them to be right.
