Car Accident Investigation
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the Tustin car accident to determine the cause and whether there were other factors that may have contributed to the crash. .
“No motorist should ever have to worry about drivers traveling on the wrong side of a freeway,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Most drivers take every precaution to drive safely, but even the safest drivers can be victim of another’s others reckless decisions on our busy roadways.”
Police departments always investigate car accidents involving a death or serious injuries to determine the cause of a crash, Seegmiller explains. The investigation will seek to find out if either driver was under the influence of alcohol, distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.
“The families of victims killed or injured in car accidents do not always know what to do after their loved one has been involved in a crash, but they do know that they are forever changed by circumstances that were beyond their control,” Seegmiller said. “Every situation is different, but some families find they are unable to cope in the aftermath due to loss of income or the emotional pain of a tragic loss.”
Those seriously injured or killed in car crashes are often victims of someone else’s poor judgment even if it were not intentional. Every time we get into our vehicles we make conscious decisions that affect every driver who shares the road with us, Seegmiller said.

Wrong-way Driver: Marie Alessandro and John Bushwalter Killed in Head-on Victorville Crash

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

VICTORVILLE, California — Wrong-way driver Marie Alessandro collided head-on with another car after entering southbound side of Interstate 15 from the Bear Valley Road freeway off-ramp, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner report.

Alessandro, a Victorville resident, drove her 2007 Toyota Corolla northbound on the southbound side of the freeway and soon collided with a 1993 Cadillac Eldorado driven by John Bushwalter, 67, of Helendale. The crash thrust the Cadillac into another lane where it smashed into a 2006 Toyota Sienna.

Bushwalter was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:48 a.m., but Alessandro was flown by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment where she died at 12:06 p.m. The driver of the Sienna, a 68-year-old man from Memphis, Tenn., was uninjured in the car accident and was able to drive away from the scene, according to news reports.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 15 freeway were closed for roughly 2.5 hours after the crash as investigators gathered evidence and cleared the roadway.

“Sadly mistakes such as driving the wrong way on a freeway can be deadly to other motorists who are unprepared to react at speeds of 65 mph,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “It’s imperative that drivers be alert for just about any calamity to take place on our roadways.”

SAN JACINTO, California —  A 24-year-old San Jacinto woman was ejected and killed in a head-on car accident with a sports utility vehicle on Wednesday in front of 19848 Gilman Springs Road, according to coroner and police reports. Six others including five children ages 11 to 15 years old sustained minor to moderate injuries in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

About 9:33 p.m., Shantae Cunningham, 24, was driving on Gilman Springs Road when she suddenly veered into oncoming traffic and into the path of a full-sized SUV driving in the opposite direction, police said. Cunningham was ejected in the crash, however, police said she was wearing her safety belt at the time of the accident.

The collision took place near Golden Era Productions studios on a winding two-lane roadway about two miles long that was recently being considered for realignment by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. The board voted earlier this month to put off a decision on realignment options indefinitely, according to news reports.

The roadway, which carries roughly 17,000 vehicles every day, has had a history of collisions due to his curves and city officials were considering widening it to four lanes as outlined in a county general plan.

“This type of collision is especially deadly for motorists because the two vehicles directly impact one another and the force of that impact can result in the most serious injuries or death,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm.

Fatal traffic accidents in California were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.
