SAN DIEGO, California (May 8, 2013) – According to an article in 10NewsNow, Ian Rey, a 38-year-old disabled man from Hillcrest, was fired from his job at Sprouts Supermarket for allegedly stealing a jacket. Rey claims that it was an honest mistake. After he took the jacket he realized it wasn’t his and he returned it.

Ian Rey was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and has some cognitive difficulties. However, he has been employed and independent since he was 18 years old. He has worked at Sprouts Market, supporting himself steadily, for the last 14 years. Rey has been described as friendly and hard- working, often greeting customers and helping them in any way he can.

Sunny Rey, Ian’s older sister, believed Rey was fired because of his disability. Rey calls the incident “an honest mistake.” Meanwhile, Rey is applying for a new position at a local restaurant.
