LAS VEGAS, Nevada – A vigil will be held tonight to honor a 3-year-old girl who was killed Monday afternoon when the car she was riding in crashed into another vehicle that made a left-hand turn in front of it at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Pebble Road, according to news reports.
Members of the community will gather at 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 at Pebble Park off Topaz Street and Pebble Road to honor the little girl who died in a car crash earlier this week. Those attending are requested to wear pink or purple – Emily’s favorite colors.
A few days ago, Emily Kay, 3, of Henderson was riding in her father Casey Barringer’s 2007 Nissan Maxima when another driver pulled in front of their vehicle to make a left-hand turn. Barringer, 29, of Henderson reportedly was driving southbound on Eastern Avenue and had a green light.
His Nissan crashed into a 2003 Lexus GX470 as its driver made a left turn from Eastern Avenue onto Pebble Road from the opposite direction. Emily Kay and her father were transported to University Medical Center where they were both listed in critical condition. The girl died, but the father is expected to survive.
The 36-year-old woman in the Lexus was also injured in the crash.
“A recent report by police indicated the little girl may not have been properly restrained in her car seat at the time of the crash, however, that does not make the family liable for her death when another driver’s negligence was ultimately the cause of the crash,” said Attorney West Thomas, founder of the Thomas Law Firm. “Victims of car accidents who are injured or lose a loved one may hold those liable accountable for their actions and obtain justice in an effort to ensure something like this never happens again.”
