LAS VEGAS, Nevada (August 12, 2013) – Nyakueth Tear, 18, was accused of attempting to flee the scene of an accident that she caused after hitting eight pedestrians with her vehicle late last Thursday, according to Police.
The incident occurred at a church, Iglesia de Cristo on Losee Road. Eight pedestrians were hit by Tear’s white 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. Apparently Tear had been living out of her car for a week prior to the accident. Tear is the mother of a one-year-old son. He is safe in the care of Tear’s mother, according to investigators.
Tear appeared in court via video conference from the Las Vegas City Jail where she is being held. One of the four people injured was a pregnant woman. All the pedestrians were leaving a church service.
“Obviously this is a very young woman that had some personal problems before this incident occurred. It’s terrible that such a large number of people were hit,” states attorney West Seegmiller, owner of The Seegmiller Law Firm in Las Vegas. Mr. Seegmiller has been practicing personal injury law for over 33 years.
