SANTA CLARITA, California (Nov. 30, 2013) — Two men were killed Saturday afternoon in a solo car crash and one of those who died was identified as Paul Walker, 40, an actor who is best-known for his role in “The Fast and the Furious” movies, according to a report by TMZ.

About 3:30 p.m., the driver of a red Porsche GT reportedly crashed into a tree and a light pole in the 28300 block of Rye Canyon Loop between Hercules Street and Constellation Road after losing control of the vehicle. Walker was a passenger in the vehicle and both occupants died in the fiery wreck after the car became engulfed in flames, the report said.

According to news reports, Walker and a driver Roger Rodas had just left a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide that was held at Always Evolving Performance Motors on Constellation Road, the Santa Clarita News reported. Rodas is CEO of the performance automotive shop for high-end vehicles. Several bystanders grabbed fire extinguishers in an attempt to put out the flames and rescue the victims, but they were unable to help them.

Los Angeles County Fire Department emergency workers also rushed to the scene of the crash, but were unable to assist the driver and the passenger who were trapped in the wrecked vehicle.

“My condolences go out to the family and friends of these two men as they cope with such a sudden and tragic loss,” said Attorney West Seegmiller.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Fire Damages Barrington Plaza Apartment Building, Injures at Least Ten People Including a Two-Year-Old Girl

Friday, October 18th, 2013

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: (October 18, 2013) – The 11th floor of a West Los Angeles apartment building, the Barrington Plaza Complex” caught fire and left at least ten people injured including a two-year-old girl. (She sustained injuries while she was trapped in a smoke filled stairwell on the 23rd floor and remains in critical condition. She was breathing upon her transfer to UCLA Medical Center).

The complex is 25 stories total and located in the 11700 block of Wilshire Boulevard. At about 11:45 a.m., smoke began to billow out of the 11th floor, according to Los Angeles Fire Department’s Brian Humphrey. After about 45 minutes most of the flames were extinguished. Several people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and respiratory distress injuries. Three fire fighters also sustained injuries and were taken to Grossman Burn Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Apparently the 386 unit apartment building was not legally required to install fire sprinklers due to its 1961 construction, according to LAFD officials. It is unclear who is responsible for the fire and an investigation is on-going.
