LOS ANGELES, California – Amos Romasoc, 63, of Los Angeles was killed early Monday morning after a hit and run driver struck him while he was standing on a sidewalk at Western Avenue just south of Romaine Street, according to a press release issued by the Los Angeles Police Department.

Los Angeles Fire Department emergency workers pronounced Romasoc dead at scene.

Now West Traffic Detectives are requesting the public’s help as they attempt to identify the male driver of the vehicle that killed Romasoc about 5:10 a.m. on Sept. 10. The driver and his male passenger abandoned the vehicle, a 2010 Chrysler Sebring, and fled on foot on Romaine Street after the crash. The vehicle’s license plate number is 6LUP437 and is registered in California.

Witnesses say the two suspects removed their shirts and ran into an apartment building at 5640 Santa Monica Boulevard. Roughly 25 minutes later, the two suspects exited the building and were seen getting into a blue Mazda with the California License plate No. 6UGC050.

Under California law, drivers who flee the scene of a traffic collision involving injury or death are criminals and face felony charges.

Police say the driver is a white male about 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 140-150 pounds. The passenger is described as a black male also about 20 to 30 years old.

Detectives from West Traffic Division are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to call Officer Hutchings at 213-473-0234. During weekends and off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAPD24-7 (1-877-527-3247).

Eastbound I-10 In Los Angeles Shut Down After Shooting, Police Cruiser Collision

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Officers are investigating a chase and shooting involving a Ford Mustang and a police cruiser.

At around 3:15 am, a silver pickup truck shot into a Ford Mustang, striking the passenger in the car.  He was transported to an area hospital with a wound to the neck and is listed in stable condition.  The driver exited the freeway, and authorities proceeded to shut down the freeway to investigate.  As some of the officers were navigating and detouring traffic, a suspected drunk driver hit one of the police cruisers.  Officers were not located in the vehicle and weren’t injured.  The driver of the other car who collided with the police cruiser was arrested at the scene.

This shooting could have been compounded into more tragedy had the police officers still be in the vehicle.  Auto collisions occur for any number of reasons – Drunk driving, hit and run, losing control of the vehicle, and distracted driving.   Some injuries may lead to long-term ailments requiring pain medication, therapy or loss of function. You may require time off work to recover from injuries completely and those costs are not likely part of the settlement they will offer you.

Hit and Run SUV Driver Sought in Death of Male Bicyclist, 53, on Nordhoff Street

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

LOS ANGELES, California – Police are still searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a 53-year-old bicyclist early Friday morning about 2 a.m. on Nordhoff Street near Woodley Avenue, according to a Los Angeles Police Department press release.

The driver, described as a white, male in his late 60s to early 70s, was traveling eastbound on Nordoff Street in a dark-colored SUV, when he struck the bicyclist who was traveling in the same direction.  The bicycle rider, whose name has not yet been released to the public, was struck from behind and thrown into a raised planter box in a parking lot near the roadway, according to the report. Paramedics responding to the scene of the crash pronounced the man dead at the scene of the crash.

According to witnesses, the driver’s vehicle is a dark-colored (possibly black or blue) mid-sized SUV similar to a Chevrolet Blazer or Ford.  There may have been a roof rack and tinted windows on the vehicle. The windshield was broken and the driver was speeding toward the 405 San Diego freeway following the crash, according to news reports.

“There were news reports that indicated the bicyclist was wearing his helmet and a reflective vest, he had a headlight on his bicycle and was traveling with the flow of traffic, but despite all this an irresponsible driver took his life,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm, with offices in Beverly Hills

The investigation is ongoing, anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding this collision please contact the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Detectives, Detective James Deaton at 818-644-8035 or Detective William Bustos at 818-644-8021 during normal business hours.

“Drivers who flee the scene of a bicycle accident involving a death are not only cowards, but they can be charged in criminal court as well as held liable in civil court for wrongful death,” said Seegmiller.

Two Fatal Hit and Run Drivers Sought by LAPD for Pacoima Pedestrian Crash

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

LOS ANGELES, California –  Two hit and run drivers are being sought by the Los Angeles Police Department for striking down pedestrian Virgina Ramirez, 79, on Mercer Street in Pacoima early Saturday morning, according to a Los Angeles Police Department press release.

Ramirez, who lives in Pacoima, was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at Mercer Street when she was struck down by a Hispanic male driver what was described as a bright red pickup truck possibly a Nissan Frontier. The driver was traveling south on Glenoaks Boulevard prior to the crash.

He was seen getting out of his vehicle and looking at the victim in the street and then returning to his truck and driving away without rendering aid or calling for help as required under California law. Next, a female driver of a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo struck the same victim and drove away without stopping to help her.

“Drivers who flee the scene of a fatal car accident are criminals under the law,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “It’s hard to imagine how anyone could leave someone dying in the street – and in this case there are two drivers who fled the scene of the crash.”

Anyone with information on this traffic collision is asked to call Officer Jennifer Ward, Valley Traffic Division Detectives at 818-644-8114 or 818-644-8000.  During non-business hours or weekends, calls may be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800)-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most key pads) using a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters can also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on “web tips” and follow the prompts.

In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash, Seegmiller explains. The investigation will seek to find out if either driver was under the influence of alcohol, distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.

“Families of victims killed in car accidents not only have to cope with the loss of a loved one, but later their lives may be forever changed due to the loss of income and other costs,” said Seegmiller.
