Tragedy When Girl Killed at Monthly Car Show Gathering

SANTA FE SPRINGS, California (Sept. 23, 2013) – Police say a 7-year-old girl was killed Sunday night in the parking lot of a popular custom car show when a driver lost control and she was either struck by the vehicle or a pile of pallets the car struck in the 10200 block of Freeman Avenue, according to news reports.

About 8:15 p.m. on Sept. 22, Whittier Police responded to the fatal crash outside a Kool Aid Hydraulics warehouse where a car show featuring customized low-rider vehicles was taking place, KABC News reported. The company, which provides aftermarket parts and accessories for customized vehicles, attracts hundreds of car buffs every month to its car shows held at the warehouse, KABC said.

Early reports indicate that the little girl, who was identified in one report as Mia Chapman, died instantly. However, the Los Angeles County coroner has not confirmed this. They are performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort this little girl’s family and friends as they cope with such an incredible loss,” Attorney West Thomas said.  “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them as they try to piece together what happened and come to terms with her death.”
