FATAL ONTARIO CRASH: Five Men in 20s Killed in Car Accident

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

ONTARIO, California – Five young men were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash into a residence early Sunday morning on South Haven Avenue just south of East Creekside Drive and early reports indicate that speed, alcohol and distracted driving were possibly factors in the crash, according to news reports and a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

All five victims died about an hour after the 1:41 a.m. crash. Jonathan Watson, 21, was reportedly driving the 2005 Nissan Sentra at the time of the crash when he allegedly ran a red light on Haven Avenue before crashing into a home. Some news reports indicated that the driver may have been tweeting while behind the wheel as his passenger’s Tweets reportedly indicated that was the case, but police have not confirmed it.

“Police will investigate whether there were any other factors involved in the crash including other vehicles involved, speeding, alcohol or distracted driving,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, a personal injury attorney. “Attorneys can also conduct their own investigation into the crash and solicit telephone records to confirm whether a driver was texting and driving.”

Marquell Bogan, 23, of Ontario was transported by emergency workers to Kaiser Hospital in Ontario where he was pronounced dead at 2:24 a.m.

The other four victims all died at the scene of the crash. Ervin McKinness, 21, of Ontario died at  2:14 a.m., the report said.

Also killed were Dylan George, 20, of Ontario whose injuries resulted in his death at the scene of the crash. Watson, 21, of San Bernardino died at the scene at 2:36 a.m. due to injuries sustained in the crash. JaJuan Bennett, 23, of Rancho Cucamonga also died at the scene of the deadly crash about 2:32 a.m.

The car crash is being investigated by the Ontario Police Department and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Division is conducting an investigation into the deaths.

“As a father of five grown children myself I sympathize with the families of these young men as they cope with such incredible loss,” Seegmiller said. “Hopefully other young people will learn from this in the future as no parent should have to lose a child in this manner.”

The family and friends of the many victims are holding a car wash fundraiser on Sept. 5 through Sept. 8 at Archibald’s Restaurant on 2685 E Riverside Drive.

EAGLE ROCK CAR ACCIDENT: Four Killed After SUV Falls Off 134 Overpass

Monday, August 13th, 2012

EAGLE ROCK, California – Four people including a 11-year-old girl are dead after a tire blowout caused a sports utility vehicle to rollover Sunday night and plummet off of the eastbound lanes of the Ventura (134) Freeway onto Figueroa Street about 75 feet below, according to a Los Angeles Times article.

Six people were in the 1999 Ford Expedition on the night of the crash about 6:55 p.m. Three people died at the scene including the 11-year-old child, a female driver and a male adult passenger. Emergency workers had to work to free the five people who were trapped in the wreckage of the minivan.

A 6-year-old child was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and landed in the HOV lane prior to the vehicle dropping over the edge. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment along with a 55-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman. One of the adult victims subsequently died the following morning due to severe injuries sustained in the crash, according to news reports.

Witnesses traveling behind the vehicle driving in the No. 1 lane allegedly saw the tire and or debris fly off of the vehicle before the driver lost control. Police believe the vehicle rolled over at least three times before veering off the freeway and falling to the roadway below. Two other cars were involved in the crash due to the debris and possibly colliding with the SUV, the report said.

The roadway was temporarily shut down after the crash so police could investigate and gather evidence. California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert following the fatal crash.

CORONA, California (RIVERSIDE COUNTY) –  A small single-engine Cessna 182 airplane crashed in the vicinity of the Corona Municipal Airport Friday evening injuring the pilot and an 18-year-old passenger and causing a small brush fire, according to articles in the Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register.

The pilot was identified as KFI-AM 640 traffic reporter Mike Nolan and the teenager Blaze Hernandez was said to be a student pilot as well as the nephew of a friend, according to various news reports. Nolan’s injuries included three broken ribs, cuts and a fractured clavicle. Hernandez suffered a laceration to his arm. Neither Nolan, nor his nephew sustained any life-threatening injuries in the Corona airplane crash.

The crash, which took place about 6:30 p.m., was located roughly two miles from the airport near Lincoln and Harrington streets.  The cause of the airplane crash is under investigation by both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Initial reports indicate that the airplane engine lost power before striking power lines and crashing into a field. Moments after the two were freed from the wreckage a power pole fell on the plane and it erupted in flames.

“Airplanes experiencing engine failure could be the result of faulty maintenance or defective parts or design,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Thankfully, Mr. Nolan was an experienced pilot logging some 35,000 hours in the air otherwise the crash may have been much more devastating.”

SAN DIEGO, California –  A 53-year-old woman visiting San Diego from Kingston, New York was struck and killed Tuesday morning after she stumbled while walking through a crosswalk and was struck by a car at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Fifth Street, according to a San Diego Medical Examiner report.

The woman, whose identity has been withheld pending notification of her family, was in San Diego for a Comic-Con convention. Police were called to the scene of the pedestrian accident about 9:22 a.m.

Paramedics transported the injured woman to Scripps Mercy Hospital where despite aggressive resuscitative efforts she died at 9:47 a.m. The 67-year-old driver who struck the woman had a green light and she reportedly ran in front of his vehicle, according to news reports.

Additionally, the Los Angeles Times reported that friends of the woman identified her as Gisela Gagliardi and told reporters that she was a fan of the popular movie Twilight.  The woman was on her way back to secure her place in line for a chance to meet with the cast of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2” featured at the convention on Thursday. Friends of Gagliardi have created an online tribute to her to help raise funds for her funeral costs.

San Diego Car Accident Statistics

There were 217 deaths and 12,998 injuries recorded in San Diego County traffic accidents in 2009, according to the California Statewide Integrated Traffic report. In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.

“Police will investigate this pedestrian crash to determine whether the driver who struck this woman was at fault,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Under California law, drivers are supposed to give pedestrians the right of way and should stop when a pedestrian steps into the roadway and must not continue driving until the pedestrian steps back on the curb on the opposite side of the street.”

For roughly 30 years, the legal experts at Seegmiller Law Firm have represented hundreds of clients who were injured in traffic accidents or have lost a loved one.

We are advocates for victims who through no fault of their own were injured or killed by a negligent driver. If you are injured, the insurance company may try to settle your claim quickly, but they do not have your best interests in mind. Some injuries may lead to long-term ailments requiring pain medication, therapy or loss of function. You may require time off work to recover from injuries completely and those costs are not likely part of the settlement they will offer you.

Finding the best car accident attorney can mean you will get the settlement you need to get your life back on track.
