MURRIETA, California – Anthony Woods, 47, of Murrieta died early Thursday morning from injuries he suffered in a rollover car accident on Tuesday on Whitewood Road at Ruth Ellen Way, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.
According to the report as well as an article in the Murrieta Patch, Woods was driving his red Kia Optima northbound on Whitewood Road about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and he was ejected as it rolled over during the crash into a traffic light pole. The coroner report indicated Woods was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the car accident. He died at 2:15 a.m. Thursday at the Inland Valley Medical Center due to serious head injuries he suffered in the crash, the report said.

There were 203 deaths and 7,974 injuries reported due to car accidents in Riverside County in 2009, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Report.
In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.
