VISTA, California – A repeat drunk driver accused of killing a motorcyclist after he drove against traffic on the Interstate 15 freeway Saturday has been scheduled for arraignment in court on Wednesday, according to a Valley News article.

Brian Joseph Webb, 24, of Murrieta, who is accused of driving with a suspended driver’s license at the time of the crash, was arrested shortly after Saturday’s head-on collision on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit and run and drunk driving with a prior conviction.

The crash took place about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Webb was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 truck when he allegedly entered the northbound I-15 freeway’s Del Lago off ramp from the wrong direction. The truck crashed head-on into Robin Vaughn, 60, of Escondido who was riding his 2002 Harley Davidson northbound in the same lane.

The truck killed Vaughn upon impact. The retired neurophysiologist had been married for 40 years to his wife Donetta and had five children and 15 grand children, according to the article. The couple were Mormons and were about to embark on an 18-month service mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according U-T San Diego report.

MENIFEE, California – Passengers Philip Molitor and Jonathon LaRue were both killed Tuesday afternoon and a 21-year-old woman suffered major injuries after she allegedly lost control of her 1993 Mercedes sedan and veered off the Interstate 215 Freeway into a ditch on the shoulder, according to a CAL Fire/Riverside Fire Department report and one by the Press Enterprise.

Molitor, 55, and LaRue, 19, both of Murrieta were both passengers in the sedan, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s coroner report.

The crash, which took place about noon near the McCall Boulevard off ramp, was especially deadly because police say none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.

Paramedics arrived at the scene of the solo rollover crash and found two of the passengers dead and transported the injured woman to a local hospital for treatment about 12:12 p.m. The woman’s name has not been released.

California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert at Newport Road due to a vehicle blocking the right lane.

Indeed, a police investigation will ultimately recreate what may have happened the victims of this crash. Although initial reports indicate the victims were not wearing seatbelts, further investigation may reveal the seatbelts were faulty or another scenario lead to their deaths.

“It’s important that police do not jump to conclusions about what may have happened to cause this accident or the deaths in this crash until a complete investigation has been conducted,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm in Southern California.

In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.

If you are injured the insurance company may try to settle your claim quickly, but they do not have your best interests in mind. Some injuries may lead to long-term ailments requiring pain medication, therapy or loss of function. You may require time off work to recover from injuries completely and those costs are not likely part of the settlement they will offer you.

MENIFEE, California – Two people were killed and one suffered major injuries in a crash Tuesday afternoon on the northbound Interstate 215 freeway on the just south of McCall Boulevard, according to a CAL Fire/Riverside Fire Department press release.

Rescue workers responding to the scene of the solo rollover crash transported the injured person to a local hospital for treatment of what was described as major injuries about 12:12 p.m. The names of the victims have not been released at this time.

California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert at Newport Road due to a vehicle blocking the right lane.

Car accidents are a regular occurrence here in Southern California, but rollover crashes are among the most deadly.

Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash in order to find out who is liable to the other party for damages, said Attorney West Seegmiller, who is himself a father of five grown children. The investigation will seek to find out if either driver was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or distracted. Also, police are seeking to find out if there are circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.

“Families of victims killed in car accidents not only have to cope with the loss of a loved one, but later their lives may be forever changed due to the loss of income and other costs,” said Seegmiller. “We all pay to have insurance to cover us in case there is an accident because the victims will need money for their medical needs and so many other financial losses.”

MURRIETA, California – Police arrested a teenager suspected of driving under the influence early Sunday morning after she lost control of her vehicle in a deadly rollover crash and a 19-year-old passenger was ejected and killed, according to a report by the Riverside County coroner’s office.

Ashly Nicole Rodriguez, 19, was arrested just after the 3 a.m. fatal crash on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter after the crash on Borel Road just east of Buck Road in Murrieta. Rodriguez was booked at Southwest Detention Center, but released on $75,000 bail, according to police records.

Aaron Ellison was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident. Police say the vehicle was traveling about 50 mph prior to veering off the road and rolling multiple times. Two other passengers suffered moderate injuries and were transported to the Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar, police said in a report.

California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

“Drunk driving is reckless driving and it claims the lives of more than 10,000 people in the United States every year,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Indeed, here in California we lost 791 people in alcohol-related car accidents in 2010.”

The families of these victims will likely face profound sadness in the wake of this crash and tremendous grief in part because the driver was likely a friend of the victim. Although the driver may have made a mistake to drive under the influence, she may not be the only responsible party for the victim’s death.

A year ago, the California legislature amended its Social Host Liability Law or Civil Code Section 1714 to allow families of victims of drunk drivers to pursue litigation against any adult who knowingly furnishes alcoholic beverages at their home to a person under 21 years old.

“In other words, if these young people were drinking at the home of a parent or another adult who provided alcohol to them that adult can also be held liable for this young man’s death,” Seegmiller said.
