WESTMINSTER: Hang Vu, 60, Killed in Parking Lot Crash at Supermarket

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

WESTMINSTER, California (May 15, 2013) — Hang Vu, 60, of Westminster was killed Monday morning after a car struck them after its driver suddenly accelerated and drove up onto the curb in the parking lot of A Dong Supermarket at 9221 Bolsa Ave., according to a report by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 10:30 a.m., police and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived at the scene of the pedestrian accident and found Vu and another woman pedestrian had been struck by the Honda Accord, the coroner and the Orange County Register reported.  Paramedics transported Vu to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she later died at 11:34 a.m., the coroner said.

The Westminster Police Department is investigating the fatal pedestrian accident to determine its cause and whether to press charges against the male driver of the vehicle.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort this woman’s family and friends as they cope with such an incredible loss,” Attorney West Seegmiller said.  “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them as they try to piece together what happened and come to terms with her death.”

WESTMINSTER, California (April 18, 2013) — Shawn Keith, 34, of Westminster was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in a pickup truck while walking in the 14100 block of Springdale Street, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 8:30 p.m., paramedics and police were called to the scene of the pedestrian accident and quickly transported Keith to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for major injuries sustained in the crash. Keith died of his injuries at the hospital about 10:55 p.m. the same night, the report said.

“Drivers who leave the scene of an injury accident are not only cowards, but criminals under California law,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Our prayers go out to the family of this man.”

Police are searching for the driver who fled the scene of the Westminster pedestrian accident. The families of pedestrians who are killed by hit-and-run drivers may not realize that they may be covered by their own vehicle’s insurance if they have uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage on their policy, Seegmiller said.

“A personal injury attorney can evaluate whether the family has a claim to compensation for their losses such as funeral expenses, medical costs and other expenses,” Seegmiller explains.

David Yoak, 38, Identified as Pedestrian Killed in Newport Beach Crash

Thursday, October 4th, 2012

NEWPORT BEACH, California — Pedestrian David Yoak, 38, was identified Tuesday as the man struck and killed by a taxicab on East Coast Highway at Reef Point Drive on Saturday, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department.

According to Newport Beach police, Yoak was walking near 8086 East Coast Highway about 7:50 p.m. on Saturday night when a taxi driver crashed his van into him for unknown reasons. Yoak was transported by paramedics to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he later died at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday.

The taxi driver was not arrested following the crash, however, police are still investigating the pedestrian accident to determine exactly what happened.

Newport Beach History of Deadly Crashes

Indeed, this stretch of Coast Highway has been the scene of other deadly crashes including a fatal crash this year in May, 2012. Duy Nguyen, 24, of Santa Ana was allegedly speeding and lost control of his red Honda. Nguyen veered into opposing traffic and crashed head-on into the driver of a black Aston Martin near Reef Point Drive. The 47-year-old fem ale driver in the other vehicle suffered major injuries in the crash.

Another deadly crash took place here in July 2008. Mario Frassetto of Mission Viejo was killed when he lost control of his 2000 Yamaha motorcycle while riding in the southbound lanes of Coast Highway near Reef Point Drive. Frassetto struck a guardrail after he veered off the roadway causing him to be ejected from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the Newport Beach motorcycle accident.

Police investigate traffic accidents in an effort to determine what happened and who may be at fault for a collision, but a wrongful death attorney takes the investigation a step further. The attorneys at the Seegmiller Law Firm typically head up their own investigation into a car accident that includes preserving evidence to determine if there were any defective automotive parts in a vehicle, examining the accident scene for dangerous conditions and checking cell phone records for calls made at the time of the crash.
