TUSTIN, California (July 8, 2013) — Colette Upton, 46, of Moreno Valley was killed after being struck by the driver of a pickup truck on the northbound State Route 55 Freeway just north of 17th Street, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department.
About 5:50 p.m., Upton was a pedestrian on the freeway when she was hit by the motorist and died at the scene of the crash. The driver remained at the scene of the fatal crash, but police did not disclose whether or not the motorist was charged with a crime.
The Tustin Police Department is investigating the collision to determine what exactly happened.
“Our lives are in the hands of other drivers every day we travel on our busy Southern Californian roadways,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “The loss of a family member in a car crash is a tragedy no one should have to go through.”
