MURRIETA, California – Norman J. Voorhees, 77, was struck and killed just after 9 p.m. on Friday night by the driver of a Mercedes Benz sedan on Kalmia Street roughly 250-feet east of Jefferson Avenue, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner report.
Voorhees suffered serious injuries in the car crash and paramedics transported him to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center for treatment. However, about 30 minutes after his arrival, Voorhees died of his injuries at 9:35 p.m., according to the report.
The Murrieta Police Department questioned the driver and witnesses and continue to investigate the circumstances of the pedestrian car accident.
“Pedestrians typically have the right of way when they are crossing the street, but unfortunately many drivers are not watching out for them,” Attorney West Thomas said. “Motorists must be on the alert for everyone from pedestrians and bicyclists to motorcyclists and other vehicles.”
This fatal pedestrian accident took place within minutes of a second crash that seriously injured a 16-year-old skateboarder on Jefferson Avenue at Nutmeg Street, according to news reports.
